Maddy Galdamez, Instructional Faculty

Maddy Galdamez graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 2018 with a dual bachelor's degree in Special Education K–12 and Elementary Education 1–6. From 2018 to 2021, she worked as a dyslexia tutor and educational consultant. She then taught third grade in Saint Louis Public Schools for five years, focusing on reading instruction and mentoring early-career teachers, including through Teach St. Louis. In addition to classroom teaching, Maddy served on her school’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team, led professional development, and planned and facilitated Saint Louis Public Schools’ first Latino Heritage Month Program.

From 2021 to 2023, Maddy worked as an adult educator for English Language Learners. In 2023, she earned her Master of Education in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Reading from the University of Missouri–St. Louis and became a certified reading specialist. She also earned certification in the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP), furthering her commitment to serving multilingual learners.

Currently, Maddy is pursuing her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in K-12 Educational Policy and Leadership at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College. In her current role, she leads Elementary Literacy content methods, as well as facilitating general teaching seminar, and supporting ELA program participants.

Maddy’s special interests center on literacy, supporting special populations, education policy, and culturally and linguistically sustaining pedagogy. She is a proud first-generation U.S. citizen of Salvadoran heritage and enjoys traveling throughout Latin America as often as she can.
